The SBMU Traditional Medicine and Materia Medica Research Center (TMRC) was established in 2002 based on a mission protocol in order to revive the scientific and applied methods in Iranian Traditional Medicine (ITM), as well as developing the production and consumption of herbs and herbal drugs under the national stable development programs.TMRC was officially approved by SBMU and the Ministry of Health, Treatment, and Medical Education in the same year.

TMRC has devoted itself to develope research in traditional medicine, through discovering, expanding knowledge, and awareness. The most important task of the center involves the documentation of interventional health and treatment in traditional medicine, and investigating the drugs used in national traditional and folklore medicine through modern and affordable methods, as well as refining and integrating such information with the modern medicine.
